taking back sunday

so. working for a movie studio definitely has its perks. a lot of their work is focused on the hunger games right now because obvs, it's a big deal ($214 million worldwide... i hope that means i'm guaranteed a paycheck from now on). one of my assignments for this week was to go to the midnight showing... anywhere, really, and see what reaction was like. well, that was fun. i've been to a few midnight showings in my lifetime and those are always fun. it kind of depresses me because it made me feel ooooooooold. i was surrounded by fifteen and sixteen year olds. but anyway. i digress. it was a good movie - and i'm not saying this because my employer produced it. it's a good story and good production (the special effects were a bit cheesy but that's okay). plus, getting paid to see movies? isn't that anyone's dream job?

so yeah, i had a good weekend. i could get used to this l.a. life. :)

awww, damn it. i'm so bad at updating this thing. i fail. anyway, i don't know if there's much that's been going on since the last time i wrote in here. well, other than holidays where i didn't feel the need to hurt my sister, a new year, lots of crazy news stuff going on (can you believe they asked me to do stories on the politics stuff? i politely refused, because really?), and stuff like that. oh, and apparently my roommate is abandoning me. :[ just kidding, mere, i love you. and i'm glad you're taking this step in your life. i'm just in this dilemma on what to do about it now. i guess i'll have to think on it some more and talk to some people.

in other news, it's almost the super bowl! my work is having one of those betting square things. god, i hope i win some money this year. it'd be awesome. might make up for the saints not being there this year :(.

so yeah. it's turning out to be a good 2012 so far. woot.

so. what's new in my life? the rangers lost and while i had to give myself some mourning time, i am still happy with the fact they made it all the way to the world series. freak tornadoes came and gave me overtime again, i got to go see being elmo (it's awesome - everyone go see it. now. and i'm not just saying this because i miss making documentaries), and now it's almost thanksgiving. yeah. i can only stand to be around my family for one holiday and it's usually christmas so most likely i'll be around for thanksgiving. maybe i'll go house hopping and bum. anyone making a turducken this year? ;)

for all of you looking forward to black friday shopping, it looks good and clear for the night. good luck with that! i have no patience for things like that, but i do have a tip: you have elbows. use them well. O:)

oh man oh man oh man. i haven't been keeping up with this because THE RANGERS ARE IN THE PLAYOFFS. (yes this is somewhat belated but HELLO, been busy watching?) if they make it to the world series i will be glued to my tv. or, rather, the tv at the news station. or my droid. or something. i will not be focused because THIS IS SO DAMN EXCITING. of course it happens the year after i move out of new orleans but whatev.

in other news, halloween is coming up. whoo! i love halloween. i don't know what i want to be yet but i have enough time to figure it out... i think. haha. any suggestions? i'm down for (almost) anything.

i am reluctant to talk about work in my personal blog, but it's just been crazy the last few weeks, first with hurricane irene and then tracking tropical storm lee (which hit very close to where i'm from, but thankfully, my brother says all they got was a lot of rain and wind but nothing too crazy). there are still a few things out there to watch. being in the midst of all this makes me realize that i hope i don't get stuck where i am, but at the same time, i guess i thrive on good, honest work when it comes to news reporting. i dunno. i just want to be a sports broadcaster, damn it.

back in the day, when i was working out of new orleans, i had a twitter account and it seemed the whole world followed me. someone suggested to me today that i get one, so i thought i'd resurrect it. it amazes me how many people from new orleans still follow me and remember me. it's sweet. hopefully i get the same kind of following in charlotte. this is my advertising: follow me on twitter! i promise my tweets are interesting.

that's all. oh, apparently it's football season again. i'm kind of eh about it, but i love tailgate parties, ngl.

man. i forgot how early these days are to do field reporting. mind you, i love going out, doing interesting stories and interacting with people. that's how i get to know the city. but man, the hours suck. oh well. that's what red bulls are for, right? :)

i guess there's a silver lining to everything, though. i'm about to go take a good long nap. leaves me free in the evenings to hang out with the boyfriend, which is always a good thing.

i miss telling people how the weather will be. apparently it's going to be warm and humid again today. stay cool, good people of charlotte. if you have any staying cool tips, share them with me! who knows, maybe i'll get to have my own little mini-segment and share your knowledge with the rest of the city. :) :)

so i was informed at work that there might be a few switches to the lineup and they want me to do more field reporting. on the one hand, this is good because i get to go out and interview people and see all kinds of stuff happening around charlotte. on the other hand, i have to get up so freaking early in the morning it's not even funny. this means when i do do the weather, i'll be doing it early (probably weekend mornings) so that i don't have to do it late and then go out and report in the field a little later. well, at least they're nice about that.

so yay? i dunno. it brings me back to my roots and is more of my forte than weather, so i'm excited. but i also feel like the weather is my baby, too.

and on a very belated note, how was everyone's 4th? i had a good time. i went to a cookout and enjoyed homemade food and good company. it was nice; i haven't had an opportunity like that in a while. so far i'm enjoying summer in charlotte :)

fuck yes! just found out the rangers are going to be in atlanta in a few weeks. yeah, i'm definitely going out there next weekend and seeing them. whoo! (you guys seriously don't know how excited i am about this.) who wants to come make it a road trip with me? (and note to self: ask for those days off, hmm?)

also, tomorrow's my birthday. happy birthday to me.

happy june first! today, for those of you that don't know, is the official first day of hurricane season. the projections are saying we might have a crazy hurricane season (kind of like 2005, with katrina... bad memories -_-). well, at least i know i have some job security this summer, as horrible as that sounds.

one of these days, i think i'm going to go out to atlanta for a baseball game. i haven't been to a major league game in forever, and i miss it. i've never been to atlanta, though. the rangers are and always will be my team (first in AL west, wut). so any tips or suggestions would be appreciated. (and baseball buddies, too. haven't found too many here in charlotte.)

so. mother's day. actually, i have a new appreciation for the holiday... if you can call it that. my mom and i weren't really close growing up, but once i did a little bit of soul searching on my own thanks max, i learned to appreciate her. i hope johnson is making her day awesome for me. of course, i'm sure my sister will rip me a new one for not coming out to celebrate with her, but not all of us can have rich husbands, september. just saying.

sorry. i have some issues with family drama if you can't tell.

anyway. all that aside, happy mother's day to all the moms out there. including my girl cassie, who i'm sure will have a good day thanks to her awesome son :D

dilemma, guys. so i heard about the rockin' party adam's throwing. i have to work, though. you think y'all will still be partying when i get off? i mean, you should be. it wouldn't be a real party if i showed up at midnight and everyone was gone. unless you get the cops called on you. in which case i'd have to switch gears and be the news reporter instead of just pointing and laughing and then bailing out whoever i needed to.
